Adopt-A-Family Program
Every holiday season, LCSA pulls together a exceptional group of individuals, companies, unions and religious organizations to support the Adopt-A-Family program. Created as a way for donors like you to provide holiday spirit for families enrolled in the transitional housing program, LCSA’s goal is to give holiday presents to each underprivileged child.
With the support from our donors last year, 217 children were able to receive an abundance of gifts, clothes and personal items they otherwise would have gone without. By supporting LCSA’s Adopt-A-Family Program, you are providing a “special” moment for each of the children in the program. Your goodwill can come in many different ways:
« Adopt-A-Family (Contact information below) « Donate single gifts or cash donations « Volunteer your time
For more information please contact LCSA at (602) 263-5741 and ask for Greg Boone.

Healthy Kids Thanksgiving Dinner
Healthy Kids had their annual Thanksgiving dinner on November 8th. Healthy kids is held on the 2nd Monday of every month with a different theme each month emphasizing team building skills and positive decision making. There were 18 kids in attendance and two volunteers. The kids talked about what they were thankful for and had to use good manners when passing an item and eating. It was a lot of fun! They ate turkey, ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and apple and pumpkin pie for dessert. It was all delicious!

Record 77.1 Million Pounds Collected in Letter Carrier's National Food Drive
June 1, 2010 NALC News Release
WASHINGTON – Americans donated a record 77.1 million pounds of non-perishable food to help "Stamp Out Hunger" in their communities this year in the annual Letter Carriers National Food Drive, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) union announced today.
NALC President Fredric V. Rolando said 77,132,180 pounds of food were collected in the drive and delivered to local food banks, pantries and shelters to help needy families. It is the nation’s largest one-day effort to combat hunger. The results of the May 8 effort easily eclipsed the previous record, set last year, of 73.4 million pounds.
The 18th annual drive boosted the total donations collected since the drive began in 1993 to more than 1 billion pounds -- 1,059,800,000 pounds.

National Association of Letter Carrier's "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive Saturday, May 8th, 2010
The NALC drive had its origin in 1991, patterned after a successful drive by Phoenix, Arizona Branch 576. The drive went nationwide two years later and 11 million pounds of food was collected, a major success then that is a mere fraction of what letter carriers now accomplish yearly.
Letter carriers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands will again make a huge difference on May 10 in fighting this never-ending battle against hunger. With the help of rural carriers, other postal employees and numerous volunteers, they will stock food banks, pantries and shelters throughout America for the summer months. The letter carrier effort is the nation’s largest one-day food drive. Over the past 15 years, carriers have collected more than three-quarters of a billion pounds of food donations— 836.2 million pounds—from their postal customers and delivered the goods to local community food distribution outlets.
LCSA this year donated 1 million bags to NALC local chapters across Maricopa County to carry the food. LCSA would like to encourage you to take part in this food drive! Leave non-perishable food items in your mail box, letter carriers will pick them up on Saturday morning and take to the local food bank.
