Our History

Established in 1974, Labor's Community Service Agency (LCSA) was built upon a partnership between the United Way and AFL-CIO; originally created to provide outreach and referral services to union members throughout the community. Over time, the agency developed programs to address emerging needs not being met by other non profits. This would allow organized labor to establish a presence in the social-service arena and continue serving the most vulnerable in the community. Its mission statement cited the organization's purpose:

“To serve the general welfare of the community and to advocate for health and human services that meet the needs of all members of the community, especially the most vulnerable and dependent.”

LCSA's years of service to the community serves as proof of its commitment to those who need assistance the most. Operating on a $25,000 budget and implementing one program (Emergency Relief) 34 years ago, remarkably the organization has grown to a $2+ million budget with eight different programs serving the community.

"To serve the general welfare of our community and to advocate for health and human services that meet the needs of all members of the community, especially the most vulnerable and dependent."
